People often ask, “Where do your stories come from?” The truth is, they usually start with something simple—a memory, a phrase, even a dream. But turning that spark into a finished book takes heart, time, and a lot of rewriting.
Main Points:
The Spark: My books often begin with a personal experience or an emotion I want to explore. It could be something my cat did or a lesson I wish I’d learned earlier.
Writing the First Draft: I don’t worry about getting it perfect. I just get the story out. Later comes the shaping, trimming, and refining.
Editing (A Lot): This is where the story grows legs. I read it aloud, cut what doesn’t serve the message, and often rewrite entire sections to make sure it flows.
Illustration & Layout: Once the story is solid, I collaborate with illustrators to bring it to life. I’m deeply involved to make sure every image supports the emotion and theme of the story.
Publishing & Sharing: Whether self-published or through a small press, getting the book into hands and hearts is the most rewarding part. That’s when the story stops being mine and starts becoming ours.
Closing:
Every book is a piece of my journey—but more importantly, it’s an invitation to yours. That’s the magic of storytelling.
